Hanging Notes is made by Fyndra and built to keep your notes private. In short, the developer never receives your data.
What the app stores
- Your notes, attachments, folders and settings are stored only on your Mac, in the app's data folder.
- Locked notes are encrypted with a key derived from your password (AES-256). If you turn on Touch ID, the key is kept in your Mac's Keychain.
Network
Hanging Notes makes no network connections. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
Features that involve other services (only when you use them)
- Cloud backup. If you turn it on, the app saves backup files into a folder you choose, such as iCloud Drive or Google Drive, and that service uploads them under your own account. Backups are encrypted with your backup password unless you choose not to set one.
- AI assistants. If you connect an assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) in Settings › AI & Automation:
• it can add notes;
• it can read notes only if you allow reading;
• locked notes are never shared. Whatever an assistant reads is processed under that assistant provider's own privacy policy. - Import. Importing from Apple Notes, Stickies or files only reads them on your Mac. Nothing is changed or sent anywhere.
- Audio transcription happens on your Mac.
Children
The app doesn't knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
